Professional French Phrases for Meetings, Emails and Presentations

If you work in a bilingual environment or with French-speaking clients, you’ve probably found yourself thinking, “How do I say this… professionally… in French?” You’re not alone.

At ELAM, we support professionals learning French for the workplace every day. The goal isn’t to speak like a Parisian poet—it’s to communicate clearly, confidently, and respectfully in real-world situations.

So, whether you’re sitting in a team meeting, drafting an email, or presenting a new idea, here are some easy-to-use French phrases that’ll help you feel a little more à l’aise.

In Meetings

Meetings can move fast, and it’s not always easy to jump in or express disagreement tactfully in a second language. These phrases can help:

  • « Puis-je ajouter quelque chose? »

Simple, respectful way to step into the conversation.

  • « Je ne suis pas sûr(e) de comprendre. Pourriez-vous clarifier ? »

Great when you need more clarity—because asking questions is a strength, not a weakness.

  • « De mon point de vue… »

A polite way to share your opinion without sounding pushy.

Want to include others in the discussion?

 Try:

  • « [Nom], vous avez un avis là-dessus ? »

Inclusive, collaborative, and it makes people feel valued.

In Emails

French emails can sound super formal—but you don’t have to sound like you’re writing to a 17th-century duke. Keep it professional but approachable:

  • « J’espère que vous allez bien. »

A warm way to open your message.

  • « Je vous écris concernant… »

Useful intro that sounds clear and professional.

  • « N’hésitez pas à me contacter si vous avez des questions. »

A good standard closing line that shows you’re open to follow-up.

Need to follow up without sounding impatient?

 Use:

  • « Je me permets de revenir vers vous concernant… »

 Courteous, yet effective.

In Presentations

These phrases can help guide your audience:

  • « Permettez-moi de vous présenter… »

 Simple and elegant opening.

  • « Voici les points clés à retenir. »

Keeps your message clear and focused.

  • « Avant de conclure… »

Helps your audience know you’re wrapping up (and yes, they appreciate that too).

And when the unexpected happens:

  • « Merci de votre patience, cela peut arriver à tout le monde ! »

Kind, relatable, and it puts everyone at ease.

Learning workplace French doesn’t mean memorizing a million grammar rules. It’s about learning the phrases you actually use—and using them with confidence.

If you’re ready to brush up your French in a practical, professional way, we’d love to help.
