Since 2023, ELAM has partnered with McGill University’s Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) program to deliver live online French language training to residents and fellows. Over the past three years, we have proudly supported 421 McGill residents in developing the French language skills essential to practicing medicine in Quebec’s healthcare environment.

Our program was initially developed specifically for McGill PGME residents — and has since grown into a trusted, continuously delivered training solution. At the heart of this partnership is FMP (French for Medical Purposes), ELAM’s tailor-made program designed exclusively for healthcare professionals. Each session is led by experienced and specialized French language trainers who understand the unique demands and terminology of the medical field.

“I had a great experience learning French with ELAM—flexible scheduling, supportive staff, and a kind, dedicated teacher who truly cared about our progress. The learning environment was encouraging and patient, which made it easier to stay motivated. I always felt heard and supported throughout the session.”

Through FMP, McGill residents gain the practical language skills needed to conduct patient exams, take medical histories in French, explain treatments, respond to patient concerns, and use correct medical terminology — all within the Quebec and Canadian healthcare context.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to equipping the next generation of medical professionals with the communication tools they need to serve French-speaking patients with confidence, accuracy, and care.
